Flood Restoration Training & Consultation
In the restoration industry, as in most fields of work, training, experience and resources are critical in the development of one's personal business. Because the implications of the outcome of our work has a huge impact on the health and safety of many people, it is doubly important that we do the best to ensure that we have done all we can to provide professional workmanship. It is so important to avail oneself of the best training opportunities and also to utilize the connections with leaders in the field for consultation and further personal growth. Sometimes, working in an isolated fashion in east central Alberta, these connections are life lines.
We thought it might be helpful for those who are seeking out a career in the restoration field or for insurance adjusters seeking to expand their understanding of current developments, to have some guide as to where to start. We have also included some supply companies that have been key for us for products, equipment and advice.
Restoration College
Restoration College is based in Canada and is a vital resource. It has been critical in our estimation to get input from a Canadian perspective about the Restoration Industry.
- Pat Dooley is the founder and lead instructor. He has been in the restoration industry since 1977. Pat wrote and taught the first Applied Structural Drying course for the IICRC.
- Peter H. Sierck is an instructor with Restoration College and also the Director of Environmental Testing & Technology Inc. in San Diego California.
Pat Dooley has years of experience in the field of Restoration and is especially qualified to help apply that to the Canadian context.
"Over the years, Pat has carried out water restoration projects to the value of 1,500,000.00 US and fire restoration projects to 2.5 million dollars. Pat participated on a catastrophic loss team to Hurricane Andrew in Homestead Florida in 1992. In 2003, he managed the largest natural disaster restoration project caused by Hurricane Isabel which included 100-year-old structures up to 300,000 square feet.
Pat has a bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a licensed Master Electrician. Pat has been a key note speaker at numerous industry functions and has proven to be a leader in the industry. He has obtained the highest levels of certification through the IICRC and is an approved instructor for Fire and Smoke damage (FST), Water Restoration Technician (WRT), Odor Control (OCT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD)."
Peter Sierck is one of the leaders in the field of microbial remediation and is able to teach its complexities in such a fashion that the learner can find immediate application in the field.
"As a committee member of the IICRC (Institute for Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification), Peter was instrumental in the development of the S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration and the S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation.
Peter is currently a member of the Indoor Air Quality Association’s (IAQA) Education Committee and committee chair for the Microbial Investigation Track. He is also Director of Education for the CFI (Carpet & Fabricare Institute) and an OSHA authorized health and safety trainer."
Dri-Eaz University
Dri-Eaz University is based in Burlington Washington and provides some of the leading research in the field of restoration technical advice, development and the applications of Psychrometry. Their courses on Applied Structural Drying are second to none.
- Brandon Burtonis the Technical Education Manager and is a core instructor with Dri-Eaz. He has served a chapter chair and editor for the IICRC'S S500 standard committee and is a member of the ASCR Restoration council.
- Brendan Kimmel is the Technical Training Instructor with Dri-Eaz.
Dri-Eaz hosts an Applied Structural Drying (ASD) course in two cutting-edge facilities. One is the Center for Advanced Restorative Drying (CARD) on their Burlington, WA campus and the other is the Dri-Eaz Southeast Operations Center in Nashville, TN.
We have had the experience of working with the instructors out of Burlington Washington and have found them to be exceptional. Brandon Burton is the Technical Education Manager for Dri-Eaz and we found that his knowledge of Psychrometry is phenomenal and that he makes this highly technical course very clear and practical for the listener.
"As the Technical Education Manager for Dri-Eaz, Brandon is an approved IICRC instructor in the categories of Applied Structural Drying (ASD) and Water Damage Restoration (WRT). He has invested hundreds of hours instructing water damage restoration professionals in the principles of drying. He is also a published author in the field. He has served as a Chapter Chair and editor for the IICRC's S500 standard committee and is a member of the ASCR Restoration council."
The support we have received from their Technical Training Instructor, Brendan Kimmelhas been top notch. Brendan has walked us through some of the technical issues relating to the application and operation of key pieces of Dri-Eaz equipment which has been extremely helpful.

Fibreclean
Fibreclean is where we recieved our initial introduction into training through IICRC certified courses. This has occured mostly out of the Edmonton branch, but has also taken place in Saskatoon and Calgary. These outlets are great resources. Not only do we access training in Edmonton, but we also get supplies and equipment from them. Diand Rusk is the Branch Manager and is without a doubt one of the most helpful and upbeat suppliers to work with.
