Benefits Of The DriZone® System
In order to understand the benefits of the DriZone System of structural drying, one must first look at the traditional method of structural drying and then compare it to the DriZone System to see how the science of drying has evolved.
The Traditional Structural Drying Process
Assuming that the following is a Category 1 Water Loss which is being addressed in a timely manner, a traditional structural drying process would be as follows:
- Remove all the furnishings and interior doors in the affected areas
- Apply antimicrobial to carpet face and, after removal, the back
- Extract carpet with a light wand
- Remove and mark baseboard
- Pull back carpet and remove/discard carpet cushion
- "Float" the carpet with air movers
- Set up the dehumidifiers in the room to "capture" evaporating moisture
- Dry the carpet, then dry the structure
- Remove drying equipment
- Fold back carpet and install new carpet cushion
- Relay, re-stretch, re-seam the carpets
- Reinstall baseboards
- Thoroughly rinse and extract carpet
- Replace furnishings and doors
The DriZone System of Structural Drying
Having looked at the "traditional" approach to structural drying, let us look consider how advances in the science of structural drying have evolved into a more efficient and effective method called the DriZone System.
Assuming that a category 1 water loss is being addressed in a timely manner, there are key areas of the two systems that differ:
- The furnishings and doors do not necessarily need to be removed with the DriZone system.
- An antimicrobial does not need to be applied with the DriZone process.
- The carpet and pad do not need to be removed and can be dried "in place" under the DriZone system.
- Extraction with a light wand is used only to remove the excess surface moisture and then a deep extraction method is utilized to remove the majority of the water from both carpet and pad. (It takes 1200 times more energy to transfer moisture to evaporation by mechanical means for removal rather using extraction as a method)
- With the DriZone system the baseboards do not need to be removed.
- The carpet and pad do not need to be removed if the deep extraction is performed properly. (Recent studies have shown that a carpet loses 85% of its strength when it is wet. Floating carpet can cause unnecessary secondary damage).
- The drying process is so much more than setting up the dehumidifier to "capture" evaporating moisture. In the DriZone System, the restoration professional sets up a drying chamber in which the wet environment is monitored and adjusted so that all materials are made to release their moisture in a timely and effective manner. (The key to achieving this is through the practice of Psychrometry).
- With the DriZone system the drying of the structure is primary as the carpet will dry as this process progresses.
- Replacement of carpet, pad, baseboards, doors and furniture are unnecessary with the DriZone system. The cost savings in labor and material are huge.

The DriZone System Is A Tremendous Benefit
- Less overall cost for complete restoration
- Minimizes chance of future mold growth
- Less replacement of materials like carpet/pad, drywall
- Fewer repairs to the structure
- Fewer subcontractors to deal with
- Increases customer satisfaction
- Close claims faster
